Their chemistry and keen ability to spot great musical talent are still the same, and fans are excited to see what this new season brings. While the two have arguably very different styles of music, Stefani and Shelton have sung together in the past, and based on what Stefani said on The Voice, it will likely happen again in the future. During the Season 22 blind auditions, one couple’s performance led Stefani to reveal which country duet song she would like to perform with her husband: “Islands in the Stream,” by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers. After a husband-and-wife duo called The Dryes sang the song in their blind audition, Stefani said: “That song would be my dream if me and Blake could do that song together one day.” Originally written by the Bee Gees and named after an Ernest Hemingway novel, according to TODAY, the Parton and Rogers’ duet was released on Rogers’ 1983 album, Eyes That See in the Dark. Stefani and Shelton turned their chairs around for The Dryes, who picked Shelton as their coach. The newlyweds have collaborated on songs previously, including Shelton’s 2016 track, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart,” and 2019’s “Nobody But You,” released on the album Fully Loaded: God’s Country. Stefani also brought Shelton on for the track “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” for her 2017 holiday album. Most recently, they worked together on the 2021 track “Happy Anywhere,” which came out on Shelton’s album Body Language. Shelton said in a statement, via TODAY, “Even though Gwen and I just had a single out, we decided that, under the circumstances, this year… man, there’s never been a better time for ‘Happy Anywhere.’” Who knows, maybe the two will work on an album of duet covers next, with “Islands in the Stream” as the main track!
